What to see
After D-Day the Allies built an artificial harbour, Mulberry B, off Arromanches-les-Bains to land supplies. Many of its huge concrete caissons can still be seen at low tide. The town's D-Day museum explains how it worked, and the Arromanches 360 cinema on the cliff shows archive footage in the round.
West of Arromanches, the Longues-sur-Mer battery is the only German coastal battery in Normandy that still has its original guns. At Ver-sur-Mer, the British Normandy Memorial lists the names of those who died under British command in the campaign.
Visiting
Arromanches is about 15 minutes from Bayeux. It is busy in summer; arrive early for parking.
