By TGV and bus via Rennes
TGV trains run from Paris Montparnasse to Rennes in about 1 hour 30 minutes. From Rennes station, direct buses take about 1 hour 10 minutes to the Mont-Saint-Michel visitor area, where the free shuttle crosses to the island.
By train to Pontorson
Pontorson is the nearest station, about 9 km from the Mont, with local buses. Trains from Paris usually involve a change, for example at Caen or Rennes, so the trip takes longer than the Rennes route.
By car
The drive takes about 4 hours via the A13 and A84. Park at the official car parks and take the shuttle. Combining the Mont with Bayeux and the D-Day beaches makes a good 3- or 4-day road trip.
Day trips
Coach tours from Paris leave early and return late, often 13 to 14 hours in total. It is a long day; staying overnight near the Mont is more relaxed.
Choosing a tour from Paris
- Coach day tours: the cheapest option; usually around 13 to 14 hours with free time on the Mont and sometimes an abbey ticket.
- Small-group tours: minivans with a guide and more flexible stops; some add Saint-Malo or a Normandy village.
- Train-based tours: TGV to Rennes and a guided transfer, shorter on the road and more comfortable.
- Two-day tours: combine Mont-Saint-Michel with the D-Day beaches or the Loire Valley, with a night on the way.
Check whether the abbey entrance and lunch are included, how long you get on the island and where the tour picks up in Paris.
